13 June 2008 – Call for applications for two short-term residencies - 2008

Michael King Writers Centre/
Creative New Zealand Short-term Residencies 2008

The Michael King Writers Centre is calling for applications for two six-week writers residencies based at the centre in the historic Signalmans House, Devonport, Auckland.

The residencies will be funded jointly by the Michael King Writers Centre and Creative New Zealand.

Each residency will be for a period of six weeks. The successful writers will be able to live at the Michael King Writers Centre, work in the writing studio and will each receive a stipend of $6,000. The first six-week residency will take place between August and October 2008. The second will be in November and December.

The residencies are open to established authors, working on a project in fiction, non-fiction, drama or poetry.

During the residencies, each writer will be entitled to use one bedroom and ensuite bathroom in the centre, and the detached studio. Other facilities (kitchen, lounge, laundry) are shared. There are occasional meetings and events at the centre.

Applications should include contact details (address, phone and email), a CV outlining their writing experience and publishing record, and an outline of the project they will work on during the residency (maximum 1,500 words). Applicants should indicate the dates they would be available for the residency. Applications close on Friday 25 July 2008.

Inquiries and applications should be sent to:
