Dorothy Howie: 2024 2023 2018 2017 2016

Dr. Dorothy Howie is an honorary researcher in the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland. She is the author of two books on the teaching of thinking, and is currently writing one on the voice of the child and young person with learning disability. In recent years she has been writing and publishing poetry. She lives in Dunedin, so has appreciated being able to stay in the room available to be rented by writers at the Michael King Centre, while working in Auckland, and also writing. Her poetry has been published in Poetry New Zealand, Tui Motu, Otago Daily Times, Takahe, Broadsheet and Blackmail Press. In 2020 the poem 'Mirages' was one of 8 poems included in the collection Eight Poems 2020 by New Zealand Poets, a handprinted book by Tara McLeod, Pear Tree Press. Her poetry books include Twin Threads (Frayed Frisket Press, 2014), Threading Between (Steele Roberts, 2017) and Golden Threads (Thread Press, 2017). A further collection, Threads and Thresholds, with a long poem Meditations on the Duino Elegies, was published by Roger Steele in 2023. Current poetry writing is towards a collection to be called Voices Threading Between.
