Gina Cole – 2022 Australian Residency Exchange – to Varuna
Gina Cole is of Fijian, Scottish and Welsh descent and lives in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland. Her short story collection Black Ice Matter won the 2017 Ockham New Zealand Book Award for Best First Book of Fiction (the Hubert Church Prize).
Gina was the inaugural Pasifika curator for the Auckland Writers Festival in 2021. She is a qualified lawyer and holds a PhD in creative writing from Massey University, and is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Iowa.
Her second book, Na Viro, was published in 2022.
“During my residency at Varuna I’ll be working on my third book, Turukawa Star, the final instalment in my Pasifikafuturism trilogy.”
